A conference from young economists for young economists
The Spring Meeting of Young Economists is now one of the most selective conferences in Economics
The SMYE gives non-tenured young economists such as PhD students, PostDocs, and assistant professors a chance to meet, present and discuss their work. The meeting was established as a conference from young economists for young economists, and it covers the entire spectrum of economics. It offers a forum to discuss research, develop new ideas, learn and socialise. Standards are high: According to Baert, “The Spring Meeting of Young Economists is now one of the most selective conferences in Economics.”
IWH President Reint E. Gropp welcomed the 200 participants and emphasized that modern research is not a solo mission, but success depends on interaction: “Do talk about your research, expose yourself, and identify coauthors!”
Every year, the SMYE invites a couple of senior researchers to address the participants. This year’s keynote speakers are Georg Weizsäcker (Humboldt-Universität Berlin, German Institute for Economic Research – DIW Berlin, Germany), Uwe Sunde (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany), Jordi Gali and Barbara Rossi (both Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional – CREI, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain).
Do talk about your research, expose yourself, and identify coauthors
