The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association and the FIRE research centre at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management were organising a joint Workshop on “Challenges to Financial Stability” on August 28th and 29th, 2017, held in Halle (Saale). The workshop provided a platform to discuss changes in the regulatory framework of the financial sector, their impact on financial stability, and consequences for the real sector.
We show that occasional deviations from efficient wage-setting generate strong and statedependent amplication of exogenous uncertainty shocks and contribute to explain the observed countercyclicality of empirical measures of aggregate uncertainty.

This paper explores how bank concentration affects product market competition of non-financial firms. We argue, and provide evidence, that sharing common lenders lowers the cost of debt financing. This is because common lenders internalize potential adverse effects of higher loan rates on the product market behavior of their borrowers’ competitors.

The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association organised a workshop on "Challenges to Financial Stability" on October 19th and 20th, 2023, in Halle (Saale). The workshop presented excellent papers that analysed whether and how financial sector regulation changes, the resulting impact on financial stability, and the associated consequences for the real sector.
