Further Requirements

Overview

Credit points are awarded for each activity. Doctoral students are encouraged and supported to present their research at academic conferences, participate in external summer schools, and undertake international research visits. Conference presentations earn credit points, and participation in summer schools may be recognized as a substitute for Special Courses.

Exposé and Term Paper

  • Work on research projects in close collaboration with senior IWH researchers.
  • Presentation of term paper in the doctoral seminar series by the 10th quarter of the DPE.
  • Three or more presentations of research projects in the doctoral seminar series.
  • One or more contribution(s) at junior workshop events with partners (e.g. HUI, CGDE)
  • Students publish their work in the IWH Discussion Paper Series.

Supervision Agreement

Doctoral students and their supervisors will conclude a mentoring agreement stipulating their respective rights and duties. Among others, the agreement includes the topic of the doctoral thesis, the frequency of mentoring and advisory meetings, and at later stages the exposé, the work plan, and their revisions. It will also refer to the ethical guidelines for scientific research in accordance with DFG.

Seminar Presentations and Discussions

As part of the Doctoral Research Seminar (DRS) series, students have the opportunity to regularly present and discuss their research with a broader academic audience, receiving valuable feedback and guidance for future work. In general, each student presents her/his work once a semester.
