We look for candidates with strong teaching and broadly defined research profiles in Financial Economics that bear the potential for academic excellence. A focus on Labour and Finance, Financial Intermediation, or Corporate Finance is particularly useful. Applicants are expected to employ rigorous quantitative methods and state-of-the-art empirical approaches. Experience with the latest AI methods is desirable and a keen interest to apply economic research to policy questions is advantageous. 

The Assistant Professorships strengthen the collaboration between the University and the IWH, which is one of the seven economic research institutes of the Leibniz Association (www.iwh-halle.de/en). The IWH focuses on research in financial and labour markets as well as productivity growth and innovation. The Assistant Professorships shall strengthen the joint research focus in Finance of the IWH and the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. The successful candidates will join IWH’s Department of Laws, Regulations and Factor Markets and the Financial Markets Department, respectively. 

The requirements for the positions are: the completion of a PhD in Economics or Finance by summer of 2027 at the latest, the potential for successful publications in leading international journals, and ideally an emerging net¬work of international research collaborations. The successful candidates are expected to teach in the Faculty’s Bachelor and Masters Programmes and in the PhD programme of IWH-DPE. While knowledge of German is desirable, it is not a requirement for the positions. 

The employees are assigned the status of civil servants with limited tenure (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit). The contract will initially be limited to three years, and may be extended by a further three years given a positive evaluation.
