Maria Kogelnik participates in the Research Group The Performance of Firms and Regions: Determinants and the Evaluation of Industrial Policy as a Junior Research Affiliate. She is a PhD student in Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her primary research interests are applied microeconomics and econometrics.

In 2016, she earned her MA from the UBC Vancouver School of Economics, where she conducted research on restitutions and unemployment in post-reunification East Germany. Before, she was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley, where she pursued research on equity capital and its impact on the lending behavior of US banks, supported by a stipend from the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation.
