Our workshop on “Firm Dynamism in Japan: An International Perspective” took place on 12 May 2025 at Gakushuin University in Tokyo. The event brought together international experts to discuss firm-level insights on AI, robotics, productivity, and business dynamism, with contributions from researchers across Japan, Europe, China, and Korea.

CompNet Presentation at HKIMR
Our CompNet presentation took place at the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research (HKIMR) on 11 April 2025, where Filippo di Mauro shared key insights from CompNet’s firm-level productivity research. The talk highlighted the role of micro-data in shaping economic policy and competitiveness across Europe.

CompNet Data Providers Forum and
TSI Workshop
The CompNet Data Providers Forum and TSI Workshop brought together Data Providers, National Productivity Boards, and Statistical Institutes for two days of collaborative discussions and hands-on sessions.
At the 4th TSI Workshop, participants explored essential topics in Micro-Data analysis and the Micro Data Infrastructure (MDI) project. Highlights included presentations on the new MDI infrastructure, insights from National Statistical Institutes, and focused sessions on constructing MDI data. One full day was dedicated to MDI applications in research, providing a broad perspective on its impact and future possibilities.
This combined online forum and workshop offered a unique opportunity for participants to help shape the future of data management and research within the TSI community.

The 13th CompNet Annual Conference on "Competitiveness and Firm Productivity in a Disintegrating Global Economy" took place on 20-21 June 2024 at the Central Bank of Malta. This collaborative event, co-sponsored by the Central Bank of Malta, the National Statistical Office of Malta, and the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH), featured keynote speech from Gianmarco Ottaviano (Bocconi University), who provided valuable insights on firm competitiveness and productivity amidst global economic challenges.

The 12th CompNet Annual Conference on “Firm’s Performance in challenging times: Input costs, Technology, Productivity, and Market Power” took place on 19-20 October 2023 in Brussels at the European Commission and brought together experts, researchers, and policymakers to explore key challenges facing firms in today's dynamic economic landscape. This conference is a collaborative effort between CompNet, CEPR, the European Commission, and IWH. Topics such as input costs, technology, productivity, and market power were discussed in depth.

3rd FINRPO – Finance and Productivity Conference
A conference jointly organised by the Bank of Italy, CEPR, CompNet, EBRD & IWH. The topic of this year's FINPRO conference was: "Green Deal: reformation, evolution, and revolution" and took place on 8-9 June 2023 at the Bank of Italy in Rome. Our keynote speaker was Philippe Aghion (INSEAD and CEPR).

European Data Workshop
The European Data Workshop, held on 15. - 16. June 2023, aimed to address challenges related to accessing micro-data in Europe. Issues discussed included limited access to administrative data, lack of cross-country comparability in micro-level data, and the high cost of data from private providers. The workshop resulted in a white paper that serves as a call to action for improving microdata access in Europe and a comprehensive catalog of available data. The goal is to centralize scattered information and provide a valuable resource for researchers.

Joint Bank of Italy – CEPR – EIEF Workshop on Firm Dynamics, Innovation and Growth
A workshop on "Firms in a period of turmoil" was organized by the Bank of Italy, CEPR, and EIEF. The workshop discussed the impact of recent shocks on the productive structure and the relevance of micro-macro interactions. The keynote lecture was given by Kalina Manova.

Academic Conference on the
30th Anniversary of the Single Market
The academic conference on the 30th anniversary of the single market was held in Prague on December 7th. The conference consisted of five sessions, with different speakers discussing various topics related to the European Union's single market. These topics included its completeness in comparative perspective, its impact on global consumer health and safety regulations, and the effects of Brexit on UK trade and local labor markets.

A short online event took place on 22nd September 2020. The coronavirus (COVID-19) may have lasting effects on the global and the European economies. This online event features a keynote lecture on the environment in which European firms operate and how it may be affected by the pandemic. A high-level panel discussed how COVID-19 may be reshaping international trade and capital flows.

3rd CompNet Data Provider Forum
Given the current circumstances that require social distancing due to COVID-19, it was decided to have the 3rd & 4th CompNet Data Provider Forum as a Virtual Conference. During the forum we have discussed questions and problems that occurred during the last data collection round. In addition, we discussed the implementation of different indicators for the next vintage and answered the arising questions.

Workshop on 6th CompNet Data Vintage
On 26th April the new 6th vintage of CompNet data was presented during a one-day workshop hosted by the ECB. The workshop brought together data users and data providers, including representatives from the ECB, Halle Institute, European Commission, several NCBs and National Statistical Institutes, the EBRD, EIB, ESM, OECD, as well as research institutes and the academia.

2nd Workshop on Empirical Research on Productivity and Innovation
The workshop will provide an opportunity to members of the network and other invited researchers to discuss state-of-the-art research on productivity, as well as the possibility of establishing concrete collaboration. We expect this meeting to also provide an impetus for improved data collection within the region aimed at fostering interaction between senior and junior researchers working with firm-level data, and allowing more solid research and policy analysis.

6th CompNet Annual Conference: Innovation, Firm Size, Productivity and Imbalances in the Age of De-globalization
As the criticism to globalisation mounts, so do the challenges to solid tenets of economic theory and practice connecting trade and productivity. How can we reconcile the decline in productivity in the last decade with still unabated barriers to globalisation? To what extent are increasing cross-border activities related to higher productivity? How would society's welfare be affected in case barriers to trade were imposed by nations in some form or another? How would a lower freedom to cross-border activities affect the spread of innovation globally and across firms? How will this affect Small and Medium Enterprises? Would such a "less globalised world" lead to smaller imbalances across economies and in terms of income inequality?
