I document a statistical link between old-age dependency ratios and average markups. I propose that a mechanism whereby households develop deep habits in consumption as they age could explain this feature of the data.

We study an alleged scheme involving more than fifty tech companies’ “no-poach” agreements. These are illegal agreements to suppress labor market competition by ceasing to recruit one an- other’s workers. We study entry into these agreements and their effects on workers.

On behalf of the network „Challenges to the European Monetary and Financial System (NEFI)“, the IWH is extremely pleased to host the Second Annual PhD Research Workshop on October 23, 2024. The network is a joint initiative of DIW Berlin, ESMT Berlin, ifo Institute, IMFS, IWH, SAFE and ZEW.
