Durch eine Ausbildung erworbene Kompetenzen zahlen sich auf dem Arbeitsmarkt aus

Abstract
Ein Großteil der Jugendlichen in Deutschland beginnt nach der Schule eine duale Berufsausbildung. Die Inhalte dieser Berufsausbildungen und die dort vermittelten Kompetenzen sind bundesweit einheitlich in Ausbildungsplänen geregelt. Wir erfassen insgesamt mehr als 13 000 verschiedene Kompetenzen aus diesen Ausbildungsplänen, sowie deren genaue Lerndauer. Vor allem kognitive, soziale und digitale Kompetenzen, die während der Ausbildung erworben wurden, zahlen sich auf dem Arbeitsmarkt aus. Dabei steigen die Einkommenserträge höherer Kompetenzen über die Karriere hinweg an. Das zeigt unsere Analyse der Ausbildungsplandaten kombiniert mit administrativen Lohndaten des Instituts für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung (IAB) über einen Zeitraum von insgesamt 30 Jahren. Außerdem dokumentieren wir steigende Erträge von digitalen und sozialen Kompetenzen seit den 1990er Jahren, während die Erträge von kognitiven Kompetenzen nur geringfügig zugenommen haben.

Stresstest für Sachsen-Anhalts Mittelstand
Die mittelständische Wirtschaft in Sachsen-Anhalt spürt die Folgen von Inflation, Konjunkturabschwung und Kostendruck. Die Stimmungslage der Unternehmen war im ersten Halbjahr 2023 deutlich schlechter als vor einem Jahr. Das geht aus der gemeinsamen Umfrage von Creditreform und Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung Halle (IWH) hervor, an der sich rund 460 Unternehmen aus Sachsen-Anhalt beteiligten.

IWH-Insolvenztrend: Zahl der Insolvenzen so hoch wie seit sieben Jahren nicht mehr
Die Zahl der Insolvenzen von Personen- und Kapitalgesellschaften ist im Juni auf den höchsten Wert seit 2016 angestiegen. Auch die Zahl der betroffenen Arbeitsplätze war im Juni hoch.

What Makes the Difference? Microfinance Versus Commercial Banks

Abstract
We make a comparison of microfinance banks (MBs) and commercial banks (CBs) in terms of efficiency, business orientation, stability, and asset quality by analyzing a large sample of banks from 60 countries around the world. Our findings indicate that microfinance banks have higher intermediation, non-interest income, wholesale funding and liquidity, but lower efficiency and asset quality. These significant variations are influenced by smaller microfinance banks and are driven mostly to African and Latin American microfinance banks.

Abstract
The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) is a member of AIECE (Association d'Instituts Europeens de Conjoncture Economique/Association of European Conjuncture Institutes), an association of independent European institutes involved in surveying economic conditions and developments, and in short-term macroeconomic forecasting. The main objective of the Association is to stimulate the exchanges between its members with a view to improve their insight into international economic developments. This ranges from the exchange of statistical or institutional information to discussions on economic policy Guidelines to common research activities. The AIECE organises between its members an exchange of view, of information and of literature on international economic developments, in particular in Europe. The Association provides the framework for joint activities of its members in areas of common interest. Its structure allows its members to develop common views on the future cyclical development. In order to meet these objectives the Association has half-yearly plenary meetings, centred around a general report on the European conjuncture prepared in turn by one of the members in cooperation with the other member institutes, but also with discussions of the working group reports and of special surveys prepared by member institutes. In Spring 2023, the report was written by the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH).

Revival in service sectors, but industrial activity remains weak for the time being
After the recession during winter, the German economy will expand at a moderate pace in the coming quarters and despite higher interest rates, as private consumption will pick up again with slowly declining inflation and increased wage momentum. In its summer forecast, the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) expects gross domestic product to decline by 0.3% in 2023, while growth of 1.7% is forecast for the coming year.
