Abstract
We examine how firms adapt their organization when they go public. To conform with the requirements of public capital markets, we expect IPO firms to become more organized, making the firm more accountable and its human capital more easily replaceable. We find that IPO firms transform into a more hierarchical organization with smaller departments. Managerial oversight increases. Organizational functions dedicated to accounting, finance, information and communication, and human resources become much more prominent. Employee turnover is sizeable and directly related to changes in hierarchical layers. New hires are better educated, but younger and less experienced than incumbents, which reflects the staffing needs of a more hierarchical organization. Wage inequality increases as firms become more hierarchical. Overall, going public is associated with a comprehensive transformation of the firm's organization which becomes geared towards efficiently operating a public firm.

Understanding CSR Champions: A Machine Learning Approach

Abstract
In this paper, we study champions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance among the U.S. publicly traded firms and their common characteristics by utilizing machine learning algorithms to identify predictors of firms’ CSR activity. We contribute to the CSR and leadership determinants literature by introducing the first comprehensive framework for analyzing the factors associated with corporate engagement with socially responsible behaviors by grouping all relevant predictors into four broad categories: corporate governance, managerial incentives, leadership, and firm characteristics. We find that strong corporate governance characteristics, as manifested in board member heterogeneity and managerial incentives, are the top predictors of CSR performance. Our results suggest policy implications for providing incentives and fostering characteristics conducive to firms “doing good.”

Abstract
In this article, I review the theoretical and empirical literature on the effects of public and private equity markets on firm behavior, emphasizing the consequences that emerge from disclosure requirements, ownership concentration, and degree of firm standardization. While publicly listed firms benefit from a lower cost of capital, enabling increased focus on commercialization and profitability, they are less suited to pursue long-term risky investments. Privately held firms are better equipped to pursue innovative projects but face a higher cost of capital, which limits their growth. Complementarities between public and private equity markets can mitigate their respective limitations. Innovation in private equity markets supplements commercialization efforts of public firms, and demand for innovation by public firms accelerates entrepreneurial activity in private equity markets. I conclude by discussing directions for future research.

Abstract
We use data from the Annual Survey of Manufactures to study the characteristics and geographic distribution of investments in robots across US manufacturing establishments. Robotics adoption and robot intensity (the number of robots per employee) cluster in "robot hubs." Establishments that report having robotics are larger and have a larger production worker share, lower pay per worker, lower labor share, and higher capital expenditures, including higher IT capital expenditures. Notably, establishments are more likely to have robots if other establishments in the same core-based statistical area and industry also report having robotics, suggestive of agglomeration and peer effects.

Abstract
We estimate the effects of worker voice on productivity, job quality, and separations. We study the 1991 introduction of a right to worker representation on boards or advisory councils in Finnish firms with at least 150 employees, designed primarily to facilitate workforce-management communication. Consistent with information sharing theories, our difference-in-differences design reveals that worker voice slightly raised labor productivity, firm survival, and capital intensity. In contrast to the exit-voice theory, we find no effects on voluntary job separations, and at most small positive effects on other measures of job quality. A 2008 introduction of shop-floor representation had similarly limited effects.

Abstract
Die deutsche Konjunktur hat zum Ende des Jahres 2024 einen weiteren Rückschlag erhalten. Das Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) sank im vierten Quartal 2024 um 0,2%. Es ist damit seit Mitte 2022 auf einem leicht sinkenden Trend (vgl. Abbildung 1). Wenngleich staatliche und private Konsumausgaben zugelegt haben dürften, konnten diese die deutlich gesunkenen Exporte nicht kompensieren. Damit ging auch die Wirtschaftsleistung im Jahr 2024 insgesamt um 0,2% zurück.
In den Unternehmen hat sich die Lage zuletzt anscheinend stabilisiert, die Erwartungen verschlechtern sich jedoch weiter. Die Risiken, die von der US-Wirtschaftspolitik ausgehen, dürften die Investitionsbereitschaft der Unternehmen bremsen. Das senkt nicht nur gegenwärtig die Chancen auf eine konjunkturelle Erholung, sondern wirkt auch mittelfristig hemmend auf das Produktionspotenzial. Alles in allem wird wohl das Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) laut IWH-Flash-Indikator im ersten Quartal 2025 nur wenig um 0,2% und im zweiten Quartal um 0,3% zulegen.
