Student assistant (f/m/x) for 20 hours per week (Structural Change and Productivity)

The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association is seeking to hire a student assistant (f/m/x) for 20 hours per week to support the research group “Understanding the Economic Gap Between East and West Germany” led by Ufuk Akcigit (University of Chicago) in the Department of Structural Change and Productivity. Enrolled students in a Master's programme in economics, data science, business or related fields, or close to attaining a Bachelor’s degree (with plans to pursue a Master afterwards) are offered an opportunity to gain insights into applied economic research in an international team of scholars, based in Halle (Saale).

Tasks

  • data preparation using statistical software
  • programming for graphical representation and econometric analysis
  • assistance with project-related and exploratory research

Qualifications and requirements

  • intermediate Russian language skills
  • working knowledge of MS Excel
  • ideally programming skills/experience in Stata and/or R
  • diligence, self-reliance, and reliability in data work
  • fluency (spoken and written) in English; ideally good knowledge of the German language
