The current situation in the world is characterised by multiple crises that seem to reinforce each other. Climate change and excessive exploitation of natural resources require a significant reorganisation of the economy and the society as a whole. Increasing geopolitical instability is contributing to a high level of uncertainty among global players. In addition, adjustments due to digitisation/automation and demographic change are omnipresent. But what are the links between these global challenges and developments at regional or local level? And more importantly, what are the links between the local or regional level, the global challenges and the actors that influence and are affected by change? We invite researchers to present and discuss their recent work on these diverse challenges and their impact on the following areas, among others,

  • firms, sectors and occupations
  • housing and living
  • labour market outcomes
  • migration and integration
  • regional economic development
  • regional mobility
  • spatial distribution of economic activities and residential locations.

Moreover, theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented contributions focusing on other topics related to regional science are highly welcome as well. Early-stage researchers are expressly encouraged to submit their work.

Keynote lectures are given by:

  • Florian Hoffmann (University of British Columbia, Halle Institute for Economic Research)
  • Bastian Alm (Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action)
